The inspiration for “Like Mountains Are” came from a quote from my favorite book, Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close. The quote reads, “I can’t live, I’ve tried and I can’t. If that sounds simple, it’s simple like a mountain is simple.” The seemingly over dramatic part about not being able to live is not what I related to. The simplicity of a mountain is what became personal. The more I have gotten to know myself, and gotten to know others, I have realized one absolute truth. Humans are extremely complicated; there is no way around it. We are simple like mountains are simple.
